General questions

(for technical questions scroll down)

Where do the photos come from?
On this site you find 100.000 photos from more than 165 countries. The photos have been submitted by thousands of participants, both professional photographers and amateurs, from all over the world. Read more about Aday.org and the vision here.

What functions does the Aday.org site have?
You can search for and filter photos and profiles and explore our selections. Currently we are running a beta version and more functions will be added in the future, like combining images, saving images you like and making your own selections. If you have any suggestions for us, contact info@aday.org!

How do I find my own photos or a specific friend’s photos?
Go to the profiles page, click on the “Profiles” dropdown. Type the display name or the ID number of the profile you want to find in the corresponding field.

How do I search for the team tag I added to my photos?
Go to the photos page, click on the “Photographer” dropdown and insert the team tag in the field that says “Team”.

What are the Selections?
In addition to making your own searches, we have prepared a number of selections out of some of the categories that stood out in this project. Read more about them here.

What does “beta version” mean?
It simply means that the site is not quite finished yet and that we still are making improvements. In the future we will add more functions for searching, sharing and comparing the photos. Get in touch if you have feedback: info@aday.org.

Is there also a book?
Yes. A selection of photos is represented in the book ”A day in the world”. Read more about the book and where to buy it here.

Will there be exhibitions?
Yes. An exhibition tour will start at Kulturhuset in Stockholm, Sweden, in November. Read more about the exhibitions here.

I want to use a picture, how can I contact the copyright holder?
The photographers hold the copyright to their own photos, which means that you are not allowed to use a photo on this site without permission of the photographer. If you wish to come in contact with the photographer of a certain image, please complete the contact form found in the “Personal Profile” of each image. Aday.org will then forward your message to the photographer, so he/she can get back to you.

I have received an email from Aday.org saying that someone wants to use my photos. What do I have to do?
You hold the copyright to your photos, which means that it is up to you to decide whom to give permission to use your photos. Please be aware that Aday.org cannot give any advice on fees or licenses.

I want to report a photo. What can I do?
Open the photo and click “Report photo”. State the reason for why you want to report the photo (is the content offensive, defamatory, infringing of copyright or otherwise inappropriate?) and submit the request. We will review your report and decide if the photo is breaching the user agreement, if so it will be quarantined.

Who initiated the Aday.org project?
Aday.org was initiated by the non-profit foundation Expression of Humankind. Read more about the foundation and its supporters here.

Why does it say, ”This photo/profile is waiting for an update” in some places?
We have asked some photographers to add some more information to their photos. When the photographers have logged in and added the information, the photos will be visible on the website within 24 hours.

Will there be another project just like this one?
Maybe! Stay tuned for updates.

Technical questions

If I log in, I see a button on my profile stating, “Edit photos”. Why is this?
If you see this button, please check you email (and spam box). We have sent you an email why we have re-opened your profile. In there you’ll find an explanation and instructions how to proceed. If anything is unclear, or you have another question, please contact support@aday.org.

I received an email from you, stating I need to update my image. What do I do?
In the email you received you’ll find detailed instructions on what to do to update your profile. If anything is unclear, or you have another question, please contact support@aday.org.

Can I still add images to my profile?
No, you can’t. We spent a lot of time reviewing all images, and we are closing the database now. Only people who received a specific email to update their images have temporary access to update data or images.

I would like to add or update more information to my personal profile (display name, age, location, profile image), how can I do this?
Please send an email to support@aday.org, and they will help you.

My pictures where rejected, why is this?
The unique day format is key to this project. After reviewing your profile we concluded that your images did not correspond with our terms and conditions, in which it is stated that “the pictures provided to us are taken by you between 00.00.01 a.m. and 11.59.59 p.m. local time on May 15, 2012”. Therefore your images can’t be part of this project.
